Cape Arhem

Yesterday was one of the best days I've had in Australia. Here is how it goes;

Woke up at 5:45am went out to G3 camp with some mates and packed the Patrol 4x4 loaded the coolers with some beers, later ol mate dropped the cooler and there beer went everywhere, and we were to be on our way.

Were driving out the Cape Arhem which takes about 2 hours to get to from Nhulunbuy. 1 and a half of these hours are on pure bush roads; bumpy, full of puddles and you really have no idea where you are going.

So we finally arrive to Cape Arhem after a very bumpy ride full of laughs. Driving along the beach to try and figure out where the best place to set up camp for the day and the Patrol just dies, it won't move. First we thought we were bogged in the sand but no the gear box went in the Patrol so basically we are stranded until someone comes out to the Cape.

Maddi sees people in the distance and decides to walk to them and see if they can help us, they did they pulled the Patrol up off the beach with another 4x4 that had a wench. If we left the car where it was the tide would have come in and it would be under water. So the Patrol is now up off the beach and we decided to set up camp.
This was camp for the day!

Now we start to get hungry so we decided we better go for a snorkel and see what we can catch to fry up and eat so we don't starve. Keeping in mind the waters in NT aren't the safest thing to swim in because of stingers, sharks and crocs. I kind of have to do one thing a day that scares me so I decided to brace myself and join the crew and go for a snorkel.

We snorkelled around the rocks of that small island in the distance. The biggest problem was getting there. We had to swim across which was about 200 metres through an extremely strong current and Maddi and I had bare feet -- no flippers. I was considering my death at this point. We got across to the rocks and it wasn't as strong there and it was more shallow so I was feeling better. I started exploring around the rocks seeing what kind of fish were around and just swimming around, I have really missed swimming in the ocean. Still exploring and I look to my left and yep there it is a reef shark, it was me looking at the shark, I freaked out and climbed up onto a rock and sat there for about an hour until everyone was done snorkelling and we headed back to shore. During this snorkel I think I was the most scared I have ever been in my life!

We got back to shore and ol mate is going to head back into town with some people who were camping at the Cape the night before. He went back into town to get another Patrol so we didn't have to stay the night at Cape Arhem totally unprepared for any of this.

During the time we were waiting I gutted 3 fish, we fried the fish and the cray fish up and had a delicious fresh feed. We had a few beers, had a nana nap and just waited until someone came back to get us.

Those are some of the fish I gutted!

Finally we see ol mate coming back with the rescue patrol, YES! We can go home tonight! He got it bogged and we couldn't get out for the life of us. After the boys spent about an hour digging the car out we finally got out and got to spend the night in the comfort of our own beds.

This was such a fun experience and such an incredible day!
